Here
at Augusta Road Baptist Church we consider it a blessing and a
privilege to provide educational activities and worship
experiences for children from birth through fifth grade. The
bedrock for Christian Education is Sunday School for every age
group. We also have a
staffed nursery for Sunday School and Worship on Sunday mornings
as well as “Extended Session” for toddlers and three year olds
who are not quite ready for sanctuary worship.
We encourage children who are in four and
five-year-kindergarten to come to worship with their parents and
stay for about fifteen minutes until Children’s Church
reconvenes in their own “sanctuary.”
Children in Grades 1-5 attend regular worship and have a
special “Children’s Sermon” that is geared toward their
understanding.
In
addition, ARBC is happy to have an active children’s choir
program and we are fortunate to have regular “leadership” in
worship from our youngest singers. Also on Wednesday Nights our
children learn about discipleship and missions in Lamplighters
(for girls) and Ambassadors (for boys).
This is a challenging program that presses children for
learning the basics of Christian belief and practice.
During
the calendar year our children are invited to participate in
Vacation Bible School and Day Camp as well as special activities
like overnight camp experiences which emphasize the budding faith
of each young disciple. Children
receive materials that help them to experience Advent and Lent at
their own level as the church celebrates these seasons prior to
Christmas and Easter. And
of course, Children’s programming could not be complete without
Easter egg hunts, swimming parties and cookouts.
